Confusing terminology

Can someone explain the different stages of long ivf protocol? Is “down regulation” when you take the contraceptive pill? Is “stims” when you start taking the follicle stimulating injection? Finding the terms quite confusing

Hi, yes "down regulation" is the phase where they basically shut down your natural hormones. It can be done with the pill, a daily injection (like Buserelin) or one injection like (Prostap). "Stims" is the ovarian stimulation phase with daily injections until egg collection. The last phase is luteal support, usually with progesterone pessaries and/or injections from right after egg collection to testing or 8-10 wks (if positive). Hope this helps (it's all very confusing at the beginning!)

Thank you, that is really helpful! I am on the pill and daily triptorelin injection. Do you know if that’s another name or type of buserelin?

I assume it's the same type of drug, they both act to suppress the pituitary gland, which is the one releasing hormones like LH. So same principle.

@Vit thanks!
