Name pronunciation- Evelyn

Posting anonymously so as not to give our name choice away! So my husband and I want to call our baby girl Evelyn (pronounced Ev-lin rather than Eve-lin). I’ve always pronounced the name that way but now seen/heard a few things suggesting a lot of British people would pronounce it as Eve-lin… so now I’m wondering if we should spell it without the second e, but also then is having an unusual spelling going to be equally as annoying to have to correct. What are people’s thoughts - how would you pronounce this?

Ha - well that’s my name and I spell it that way and it is pronounced Ev-Lin. Truthfully, haven’t really heard it pronounced another way

I would pronounce it Ev-Lin 🙂

I would pronounce it as Ev-eh-Lin in north east Scotland

British here and I would pronounce it Ev lin too, I’ve never heard it pronounced any other way personally

My granny is an Evelyn and she gets both

My daughter is an Evelyn. We pronounce it Ev-eh-lyn. Although saying that we mostly call her Evie for short! Honestly think it is the nicest name ever for a little girl!

I would pronounce it Eve-lyn. Evlyn is a nice spelling also x

Huh, I've always pronounced and heard it only ever pronounced Ev-eh-Lyn. If you want it painstakingly clear proncounciation wise for your way, Evlyn makes the most sense 👍

I would pronounce it “ev-eh-lyn” the only ways I’ve heard it pronounced is how I’ve just mentioned and also Eve-lyn. I’ve not come across it being pronounced ev-lyn with that spelling xx

Thanks everyone. I think when I write ev-lin I mean the same as ev-eh-lin, it was more to distinguish from starting with an “eev” sound. It’s confusing trying to write down phonetically what you mean. I think we will stick with the traditional spelling, I’m probably overthinking it.
