IUD

I go tomorrow for my 6 week PP appointment. I am supposed to be getting an IUD but I’m super nervous about it. After watching videos and doing some research I’m kind of thinking I would like to go back to the depo. Can anyone give me your experiences with the mirena iud? Pros and cons?

I personally had all positive except i wont lie it felt like someone stabbed my kitty with a stick when itcwas inserted but I've heard some doctors don't hurt u. I didn't get pregnant and it was easy and painless to remove. My periods didn't change, I didn't gain weight no cramps or any other side effects at all. I had the mirena

I had just got the Mirena On Friday and I am eight weeks postpartum. Only had some cramps and getting it inserted you get three big pinches but nothing terrible. I just thought to myself if I can go through labor, then getting an iud was a piece of cake! I was super nervous too but it went by great!

I had the copper one put in at my 6 week check up pp. it wasn’t bad at all! I was also worried cause of things I had heard but I will say it felt like some crapping and wasn’t bad at all

It is a good decision but will not lie it does hurt to put in and more to take out, don't want to scare you just to want to warn you! But nevertheless a good choice!

Loved it. I’ve had it twice. Once before having kids and once after having my two kids. It’s been great no side affects and don’t have to think about it for 5 years

I don’t think it hurt at all especially if you’ve had a vaginal birth.

I’ve had both mirena & copper . I recommend the copper one. Heavier periods but none of the extra hormonal stuff.

I didn’t feel anything whatsoever when I had my Mirena inserted. After that over 6 months later I had to get it removed because it caused a lot of bleeding and cramps for me. Doc said it was most likely because it was placed a little crooked in my uterus. But like I said insertion was a piece of cake, pain free. It’s going to be different for everyone though. Best of luck ❤️

@Marlayna I just left my OB from getting it placed. I can feel the strings poking me and she said once the strings curl up I shouldn’t be able to feel it anymore. Please tell me that’s normal and it doesn’t last long 😅

It’s normal. No worries instead of waiting for them the curl up you can push them upwards with your fingers. Might help make it more comfortable.

@Marlayna thank you! This is my first one and I’m still so nervous about it 😅

It’s all good mama! I hope it works for you! IUD is some of the best BC IMO. My first time it was perfect. No side effects. My second time, like I said before, it was placed slightly crooked so it caused pain and bleeding for 6 months. I’m on the depo now instead. I don’t like it as much. More to think about and have to go every 3 months on time 😅

@Marlayna I lovedddd the depo but no one told me it’s meant for short term use until I was 5 years in 😅 literally ruined my teeth and it took me 2 years to finally get pregnant when we were ready 🥴

Wow I heard after I started it that it was bad for the bones. Includes bad for teeth? Aw that sucks! I need something long term. Thanks for telling me that. Super useful info.

@Marlayna yes! I had perfect teeth before starting and after about 2 years they started slowly decaying and I couldn’t figure out why cause I take good care of them, I switched doctors 5 years after being on depo and had just mentioned I was upset about my teeth and she said the depo 100% caused it.

OMG ❤️I’m sorry to hear you’ve gone through that! Thank you for the valuable info though! I think I’m going to switch back to the IUD and hope they can place it correctly this time!
