Am I in the wrong?

Do you count meals as a Mother’s Day gift? My mother-in-law took us out to a nice dinner and offered to take us to the movies. However, we have a seven month old and could not go to the movies since we had no one to babysit. My mother did not say anything about any gift. However, her birthday was the Thursday before Mother’s Day, and she also had a meal. The thing about the meal with my mother is that I was visiting her for her birthday and I asked her what she wanted although she paid for it. I did pick her up some food for her birthday. I understand that I’m not entitled to receive any kind of gift from anyone, but do you count meals as a Mother’s Day gift? Sidenote, my mother-in-law said that the meal was a gift. My mother did not say anything like that.

I wouldn’t expect anyone expect my husband/child to give me a gift for Mother’s Day.

I'm not sure I understand the situation...but I will sometimes take my friends and family out for dinner to a really nice place as a gift. I'm not talking about chain places, more higher end. I also wouldn't expect anything from anyone aside from my husband and child on mother's day.

I wouldn’t expect a gift from my mother/mil for Mother’s Day. I’d be the one giving them a gift however.
