Contraception

I've got my appointment tomorrow to go onto contraception as im 6 weeks pp, but i still have no clue which to pick 😫. Ideally, I wouldn't want to be on any because i hate the hormones and side effects such as weight gain and terrible moods, but i do need to pick one. I was on the patch for over 7 years and tbh it wasn't bad, i like how i was able to come off the patch as and when i chose so it didnt feel so permanent but it did give me awful weight gain. I just hear so many horror stories about so many of them, so if anyone has any advice (i know everyone reacts differently) , I'd love to hear!

Natural cycles ?

I was on the depo injection for years before having my little girl and I went straight back on it pp. It's always worked really well for me, never had weight gain problems (which I did whilst being on the pill!) defo worth looking into x

I had the Implanon inserted 6wks PP (small rod in arm). It has always worked well for me (this is my 3rd), as i previously tried the pill and hated it. Ppl have mixed responses to it, but it can be removed if it doesn't work well for you.

i had nexplanon inserted (no hormones). there was some weight gain, but i also have pcos so 🤷🏽‍♀️ i used it for 5 years (2 different implants). all the other ones did not work for me: patch gave me nonstop periods, pill gave me severe stomachaches, i don’t have the memory for pills or shots anyway & i’m not inserting anything inside me after having a baby and seeing the pain my sister went through bc hers shifted, so lol.

Maybe if you want to avoid hormones but still want a contraceptive the copper coil may be an option? I personally don’t like the affects contraceptives has on me so we opted for barrier methods and didn’t get pregnant until we actively tried for our babies. After these two are born we will opt for barrier methods again until hubby manages to sort his end of the bargain up ✂️

I was on natural cycles before pregnancy for years and personally would never go back to hormonal birth control. You don't 'have' to choose it if you don't want too, condoms are also always an option as well if you'd prefer to wait and think about it more. Our hormones are wild after pregnancy and birth and need time to settle so if you're feeling pressured maybe talk to your partner about how you feel and suggest condoms or apps such as natural cycles?

Do you really have to? Not to be blunt but unless he has a latex allergy why not let him take some responsibility for a change. Please correct me if I'm wrong but nothing wrong with condoms even if just for a bit longer to let your body recover and adjust. It baffles me that as women we spend 9 months having our body battered and hormones go crazy just to be chucked back on birth control 6 weeks later. I told my fiance that he wraps or uses his own hand because I wasn't putting anything in my body. 😂 My periods didn't even come back until 10 weeks so 6 weeks was way too early for me. 5 months pp and he's got used to it now.

@Erin nexplanon does have hormones, it's a progestin based contraceptive rather than estrogen.
