Will and legal guardian

Please tell me we are not the only ones that hadn't done their last will and have no legal guardian for their child. I keep telling my partner we need to sort it out but it's like talking to a wall 🤦 Can people who have it sorted tell me how difficult it is? Is it lots of paperwork? And is it expensive?

It’s so easy- I did it because mine doesn’t have any contact with her dad and it CAN help in court with where she goes if something happens to me since hes on her birth certificate. It cost me £180, I told the solicitor the reasons why, she advised me the best way to write it and what to write in it and then wrote it all up for me. I also wrote a letter of wishes to my sister (who will be responsible for my daughter and finances) detailing specific things to do with her upbringing etc. The letter of wishes can be amended at any time as it’s not a legal document. The only thing I would really advise is getting it done professionally at a solicitors- I was told by a family solicitor to not use online will writers/ templates even though it can be cheaper x

My husband and I have a mirror will and we have named who will take care of our son if we both die before he is 18. It didn't cost us anything. If you Google free wills, it will give you a list of companies that do it for free. All you have to do is state in your will an amount you will leave to a charity. Ours was done through Co-op x

If you have life insurance sometimes they will do a will for free as part of the deal. My union provides a free will writing service too.

Thank you everyone, you all were very helpful
