Mirena iud and ttc - my experience

Had my IUD out at the beginning of Dec after having it in for 2+ years. After removal I had irregular, heavy & painful periods for Dec, Jan and Feb and felt disheartened because hearing “your fertility can return immediately” and feeling the symptoms I did sent me on a path thinking my body wasn’t getting back to normal. BUT once I started to track my cycle and ovulation properly in March (Used ovulation strips, conceive+ lube and both myself and my partner had our daily vitamins (I recommend conceive+ & wellman)) we just found out we’re pregnant 5w+2d!! couldn’t be happier and know how lucky we are. I’m just posting this for anyone who may think their fertility may have taken a hit after IUDs. I didn’t realise that it can sometimes take the body 3-6 months to have a “normal” period again. So if your cycle or ovulation isn’t as regular as it should be yet, and it’s been 0-6 months since removal don’t lose hope. But always see your doctor if you have concerns. Also, don’t rely on an app to tell you when you’re ovulating -I did this in Feb- and I evidently ovulate later than typical for my cycle and of course, the app didn’t account for this. The strips will give you a more accurate reading. Good luck xx

Congratulations 🎉. Did you start ovulation strips right after your period?

Yes I did, just because my cycle was so irregular that I wanted to make sure I wouldn’t miss it

OK, thank you. Also, what was best for you checking ovulation first thing in the morning? I’ve heard different things.

I originally thought morning would be best, but I was always getting a faint line and so, one day I decided to test morning and evening like 6/7pm and saw my first positive line! So honestly I think it’s different for everyone. I bought loads of tests from Amazon so I didn’t run out and then started testing numerous times a day. Worked for me xx

Ok thank you
