Birth control

Anyone on birth control any time especially the depo? I don’t remember the depo working (no period) immediately after the first shot. So now I’m worried I could be pregnant but took a test and says negative. However, my first time on depo it took about half a year for no period. Is it normal for it to work immediately (no period)?

I got the copper IUD. It was practically painless

@Michelle did it take your period away immediately? I’m on depo and I haven’t got period but the first time going on depo took half a year for it to stop..

Well, I got the copper IUD so it's not hormonal. I haven't had a period in months though. I think it's cause I'm breast feeding. But once I do it should be " regular" what made you chose the shot? Just curious

i got mirena IUD and i got my period one week after. I bled for 10’days and been spotting for almost 2 months now

@Michelle i started with the pill and stopped and chose the shot. I wasn’t really “introduced” to different types of birth control or know the different ones and if I heard it was all negative opinions. After I had my baby my OB suggested the mirena but again only knew about the depo and how it worked for me and I don’t really like change However I only started because of periods and the pain mixed with having HS just wasn’t working for me and pain medicine for any pain isn’t strong enough.

I was on birth control for about 7 years prior to getting pregnant and it messed up my body, I will never be on it again 🤷🏼‍♀️

Depo is a very hormonal birth control because it lasts 3 months. It can do alot of things each time I've done depo, I would get a different reaction. Once I did it, no period for like 2 years but I gained soo much weight! Another time I was on it, I didn't gain weight but my hair fell out and I had a regular period. I guess it all depends.

@Lisa that sounds rough!

I had the depo and my period didn’t stop for a year, but I’ve talked with other people who also took the depo and they had the same experience as you - no period at all for sometimes a year or more. I wouldn’t be too concerned at this point and just take a test to be sure.
