Hi Jess, I hope it’s ok to ask, but where are you having letrozole? I’ve heard such good things but I’ve been under two clinics that don’t prescribe it, only gonal-f or menopuer xx

Hey. Course. I’m having mine through the clinic x

Yeah which one? Dr Reddy in Cheltenham?

I am on cycle 7 :(

@Tahlia do you have just that or a combination? At Cheltenham? I’m on menopuer with ovulation induction but they don’t do it in Cheltenham.

Yer started on clomid to regulate my periods and now just on letrozole

I’m wondering if it’s a drug associated with PCOS etc?

I did three cycles and did not ovulate either time each dose progressively getting higher. After that my clinic put me on Metformin and myoinositols and I got pregnant Within that cycle.

@Justine ah yes, metformin has a good reputation for people with certain needs. I have a couple of pals who really champion it. I haven’t heard of the other drug but PCOS related I think. I don’t have PCOS but I read that letrozole mixed with fsh drugs are useful for older ladies (I’m 43) but haven’t heard of it until recently and thought it was an overseas thing x

@Yog yes thats the one 😁

@Jess ah awesome. I’m seeing after my period this month so we’ll ask her about it. She had clear views on the drugs I was given at another clinic so I’m trying to learn about things!

@Tahlia oh bless you, fingers crossed! This is my first cycle in a year, so just regulating that x

@Justine ahh ok! Good to know, just interesting to see what works for people and wasnt doesn’t x

@Yog yeah she’s brilliant, I do really like her 😊

@Jess I have PCOS and tried for years to conceive and started Letrozole and conceived first time! Now have a 6 week old! Works so different for everyone I have noticed! So hopefully first time for you too!

@Lauren congratulations Lauren, what was your protocol? I’m really interested to try it ☺️

@Yog I was referred to the assisted conception unit due to my pcos and not ovulating. I was given a choice of Letrozole or Clomid. Ended up doing a bit of research myself and most studies showed more likelihood of pregnancy, healthier pregnancies and higher live birth numbers with Letrozole over clomid so chose Letrozole! Got prescribed the Letrozole along with a medication that would start my period as they were irregular. Didn’t end up using the other medication though as period came naturally that month. Was started on 5mg of Letrozole although I think the usual starting does is 2.5mg so unsure why I was started on 5mg. You take the Letrozole on the second day of your period for 5 days straight. So days 2-6 of your cycle. At around day 10 I got a scan on my ovaries to see if there was a dominant follicle and if it was likely I would ovulate. They look at the lining of your uterus to see if it has thickened enough and the size of your follicle with an internal scan.

Ran out of space sorry for the essay! Haha. If you have multiple dominant follicles they don’t want you to have sex as the risk of multiples is high. So I was told I was likely to ovulate so then I went for a blood test on day 20 to check progesterone levels which if they are high enough show that you ovulated. If you do you just wait to take a pregnancy test and they said if you don’t they will increase the dose of Letrozole after 3 months at the same does I believe it was! Not 100% sure on that though! So ultimately you take the pills day 2-6 have a scan and a blood test within the cycle! Then if you do get pregnant you get an early scan at 7 weeks to check where pregnancy is and if it is developing well!

Sorry for how long that was. Hope that’s the info you wanted! Sorry if I’ve just waffled for no reason 🤣🤣

I have PCOS and it took me 3 cycles of letrazole to conceive, currently 32 weeks pregnant, clomid didn't work for me at all x

@Lauren you are a superstar! This is brilliant information! I’m on FSH/LH stimulation and growing two follicles on that they’ve pushed to reach maturity and then triggered ovulation for timed intercourse. I’m wondering if letrozole will stimulate more follicles and therefore allow us to try ivf with more success. They don’t feel it’s quiet my while with just two so it’s worth asking about and you’ve really helped me to have an educated conversation. Do you know how much a treatment cycle is? The drug I’m on is so expensive. I think they also mix gonal-f with letrozole which is useful in older patients like me apparently! Xxx
