Adoption during IVF?

Has anyone on here looked into or pursued adoption while going through IVF? Adoption is a back-up plan my partner and I have discussed if IVF doesn’t work for us. We’ve had one failed IVF cycle so far. We’re tempted to start the adoption process while we pursue another round of IVF to see if either (or both!) work in our favor. Can anyone relate?

Hey hun I so desperately wanted to be a mum we started the adoption process by contacting and deciding upon 1 agency. We also attended info session and had a nunber of home visits. They wernt too keen on us exploring the ivf route if we were looking to adopt and said we would need a 6m break from ivf treatment or similar before starting the adoption process We ended up going down the ivf route as funding would be pulled if we had an adopted child-ridiculous if you ask me. They penalise you for adopting a child and take away your nhs ivf funding. Anyway long story short our ivf worked, we have a daughter and a 2nd on the way Adoption is still on the card for the near future Feel free to PM me and i can go into more details x

@Mrs36 thank you for sharing your experience. Was it the NHS that said they’d pull funding? I live in the USA so I’m not sure how it differs here. I have private insurance for IVF, which I’ve nearly used up all of so soon my partner and I will have to pay completely out of pocket. Seems like you should be able to pursue both. Hmmmm.

Yeah hun nhs funding The adoption agency told us that the funding would be pulled if we have an adopted child. Hopefully youre able to pursue both hun. I wish you every success in your journey to becoming a mummy x

@Mrs36 thank you. Happy to hear you’ve had success with IVF.

If you are in the uk they will want you to have finished ivf for a while before adopting, they don’t want you to then get pregnant and change your mind essentially. Best of luck, we had 3 cycles before we got a positive

@Ana I’m in the USA but that’s good to know, thank you. And congrats!

We did look into it but agencies typically require you to be done with fertility treatments for at least 6 months before pursuing adoption so ultimately we didn’t start that process

@Christin thank you for sharing

Thank you! Best of luck to you for the next 🤞🏼

In the UK did the adoption agencies give a reason for waiting 6 months. I have 4 frozen embryos left and once they are gone, I will no longer be doing IVF. So, they'd make me wait another 6 months after that, sounds ridiculous.
