Autism in a 2 year old?

So we are fostering two boys, 2 and 4, and they had their recent wellness check up. The doctor recommends a screening for autism as well as his case worker recommends. Has any of your 2 year olds been diagnosed? And did being diagnosed help? What are some things for such an occurrence we could try to help him cope before diagnosis?

We have a 4 year old placement who came to us right after she turned 3. She has level 3 autism and we went through the whole process of getting her diagnosed. It has been a great thing for her because she has been able to go to ABA therapy and receive other services because of her diagnosis. ABA therapy has changed her life and ours as her caretakers =] we have been extremely grateful for it.

@Katie Jones ooh that sounds great! They did recommend physical therapy for him too, this is all so new to us we didn't even know a toddler would need that kind of stuff. But it definitely makes sense! I sure hope the doctors can find a way for us to help him express himself. He has such a hard time with that 🥺

Our girlie is nonverbal as well. And her therapists have helped her learn to use a communication device - basically an iPad that speaks for her when she pushes buttons. Her ABA center has her other specialized therapies all in once place so she gets OT and Speech there. It's helpful because we don't have to make several different appointments in different places.
