Need Advice

We rent a house and have been there for almost 3 months now. When we did the initial walk through with the landlord he knew the carpet in one of the bedrooms needed professional cleaning or replaced. I told him at that time it was going to be the babies room so if we could get it done asap. He said he would let us know at the end of the week. Again we have now been there for 3 months and still nothing has been done. I’ve bought a new carpet cleaner to try to clean the carpet however it still did not come clean and pet hair was coming out of the carpet. So that being said my husband asked the landlord about the carpet again and he just said next time he was in mentor he would stop by and re evaluate it again. He lives on the other side of Cleveland so he’s never just around mentor. I am now currently 34 weeks pregnant and need to get the nursery set up and everything done asap. I just don’t know if we should pay to have the carpet replaced ourselves and then tell the landlord we are taking it out of rent for the month. Or do we try to buy some time of children play mat to cover the whole floor but that’s also expensive. I just want to make sure it’s a clean and safe space for our baby. And it’s very frustrating at this point and idk what the best thing to do is.

I would just buy a small play mat for tummy time with baby. Most likely baby won't be able to roll/crawl to explore the room for 6 months or more. So there is still time. Maybe give the landlord a dead line like if you don't replace the carpet by December than we are going to do it ourselves. I understand the struggle of wanting to set up the furniture and stuff though so maybe that's not the best option
