First Consultant appt

Hey all, we have our first consultant appt at st Mary’s on 3rd July (our initial investigations started on 28 dec) - so long time coming. Does anyone have any tips or questions to ask/things to be aware of? It’s our first appt following all our tests so not sure what to expect/what happens next. Thanks

Hi, so we’ve had the exact same. They basically go through your test results and treatment plan. Also if you are entitled to NHS funding. At the end of the call they book you in for your final bloods, scan and teach. From there they order your medication once you signed your consent forms. It all goes very quick. Feel free to message if you have any questions, good luck xx

Good luck 💕 I hope this isn’t the case, but I had an appointment at St Mary’s expecting it to be a consultation based on how the letter was written. When I got there, it was actually for an internal ultrasound and bloods. I raised a concern because I’d been given false expectations and felt so disappointed to not actually be discussing with anyone. St Mary’s receptionists said that the letter is misleading as it said I was merging with someone and nothing about tests, and it’s a known admin problem. My husband had repeat sperm tests that day so that should have been a clue, but I wouldn’t have worn jeans that day if I’d known!

When the actual video consultation came around a few weeks later though, it went well! I found the consultant helpful but the appointment flew by so fast. The outcome for us was that she started setting up IVF for us, but going into the appointment we imagined IVF would be a battle and months away. It kinda floored me, whilst I wanted to eventually explore IVF, I didn’t expect it to come so quickly and it’s taken time to get our heads around. I wish I’d given more thought to how ready I was for next steps and could’ve taken that more in my stride. They will throw a lot of information at you, but they will then send you a detailed write up afterwards so don’t worry too much about trying to note things down. Hope it goes okay xxx
